Description
This ceramic vase is sculpted as a bunch of tulips, three rounded blooms gathered on tall sage green stems and tied with a raised pink bow. One tulip is a buttery yellow, one a soft lilac and the third a pale pink, each with its petals picked out in brushed streaks of colour so they read as real flowers. The stems fan out towards the foot, giving the vase a steady stance, and the bow's loops and tails stand proud of the surface, with a pink band wrapping round to the back. A glossy glaze covers the whole piece and catches the light on the petals and leaves.
The tulip heads are open at the top, so the vase takes a small posy or a few short stems, and it looks just as cheerful left empty as a decorative piece in its own right. We like it on a kitchen windowsill, a hall table, a bedside table or a bathroom shelf, and it brings a note of spring colour to a mantelpiece through the greyer months of the year. It sits happily in a pastel or cottage-style room and softens a plain shelf of books. It also makes a lovely little gift: a bunch of tulips that never wilts or drops a petal.
Made from ceramic and finished in that glossy glaze, the vase needs very little looking after. Dust it with a soft dry cloth, or wipe it gently with a damp cloth and dry it straight away. As with any ceramic, handle the open tulip rims with care and stand it on a level surface back from the edge of a shelf. To style it, set it against plain white or pale wood so the yellow, lilac and pink take the lead, or fill it with pink blooms to pick up the colour of the bow.
