Description

The Tomelle is a round recessed downlight in white and black, with an aluminium body that sits flush into the ceiling. A white flange frames a slim black inner ring and a white reflector, so the fitting reads as a crisp, graphic circle against a pale ceiling. It measures 9.3cm across and takes a single GU10 bulb of up to 35W, which you buy separately because the bulb is not included. Its IP20 rating settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms.

We would put it in the ceiling of a living room, a hallway, a bedroom or a study, anywhere you want light without a hanging shade. Because it takes a standard GU10 bulb, you choose the colour of light and the brightness yourself, and you can change your mind later with a simple bulb swap. The black ring is the detail that sets it apart from a plain white downlight: it gives each light a neat, defined edge, which works well in a run of several across a modern ceiling. There is no switch on the fitting itself, so it is controlled from your wall switch like any ceiling light.

Two spring clips hold the downlight in a cut-out of 6.8cm, and it needs a recess depth of 3.5cm above the ceiling, so check the void before you buy. It runs on 220-240V mains and weighs 0.167KG packed. As a wired-in mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download.
