Description

The Tomelle Downlight is a round recessed ceiling light in white aluminium, 9.3cm across, made to take a single GU10 bulb of up to 35W. The bulb is not included, so you choose the brightness and the colour of the light yourself: warm white for a living room or a crisper white for a kitchen. It carries an IP20 rating, which settles where it goes: indoors, in dry rooms, so it belongs in living spaces rather than bathrooms or outdoors.

A row of these downlights gives a hallway, landing, kitchen or living room an even spread of light with nothing hanging down into the room. Set near a wall, each one sends its light downwards across pictures and shelves, a simple way to make a gallery wall or a bookcase the centre of attention in the evening. The plain white face sits quietly against a white ceiling, so the eye goes to the room and its contents rather than the lights themselves. We suggest it wherever the space behind the ceiling is shallow, because it needs only 3.5cm of recess depth.

Aluminium is light and rigid, and the whole frame weighs just 0.158KG packed. It sits in an 8cm cut-out, held by two spring clips, with the wider round rim finishing the edge neatly against the ceiling. There is no switch on the fitting: it works from your existing wall switch and runs on 220 to 240V mains. As a wired-in light it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. Before you order, check that your ceiling gives at least 3.5cm of depth and that an 8cm hole suits each spot you have planned.
