The To-Be is a slim tube pendant light in matt black: a plain aluminium cylinder 45cm long and just 5.5cm across, with its light at the base. Inside is an integrated LED, so there is no bulb to buy or change. It draws 10W and gives 806 lumens through a 35° beam, a focused pool of light rather than a wash across the whole room. Its CRI of 90 means food, wood and fabric keep their true colours beneath it. It comes in two colour temperatures: a 2700K version for a warmer, softer white or a 3000K version for a slightly crisper one. Choose the one that suits your room when you order.

We think its narrow profile makes it a natural choice over a dining table, where the beam lands squarely on the table top. It also suits a living room, hung on its own beside a favourite chair or in a row along a sideboard. Because it is so slender, several can hang close together at different heights without crowding the space, and the matt black reads as a fine dark line against a pale wall. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry indoor rooms only. There is nothing else to buy to make it work: the light source is built in and it runs on 230V mains.

The tube hangs from a canopy 5.5cm across and 13cm tall, at a drop of up to 200cm, so it sits comfortably under a standard ceiling or a taller one. The matt black finish keeps the plain cylinder shape quiet and understated. It is a mains fitting, wired in by a qualified electrician.
