Description

The Thari is a linear wall light built around a single ribbed glass cylinder. Its tall, cylindrical shade of transparent fumé glass is fluted from end to end and sits between two gold end caps, held clear of a long straight backplate by a pair of short arms. The smoky tint softens the light from the lamp inside, and the ribbed glass gives the tube a fine vertical texture. It takes one E27 lamp, which is not included, so you choose the bulb and its colour of light yourself. It is 44cm tall and projects 7cm from the wall, slim enough for a narrow hallway.

With its gold finish and fluted glass, the Thari leans towards art deco and classic interiors, though its clean linear shape sits just as easily in a plainer modern room. We like a pair either side of a hallway mirror, on a landing, or flanking a bed in place of bedside lamps, which frees up the table. In a living room or dining room, set one each side of a fireplace or a sideboard for a warm, upright accent. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only. It works on an ordinary on-off switch, and as a mains fitting it is for a qualified electrician to install.

The Thari has an iron base, a brass structure and a glass shade, with the metalwork finished in gold and the shade in transparent fumé glass. The gold end caps frame the tube top and bottom. It runs on 220 to 240V and carries a 2 year guarantee. As a styling note, the gold picks up brass picture frames, mirror surrounds and warm timber, while the smoky glass sits well against deep greens, inky blues and warm neutrals; a warm white lamp gives the softest glow through the smoked glass.
