Description
Terrazzo Rect. is a wall mirror 120cm high by 80cm wide, printed with terrazzo chips in red, teal, ochre and grey gathered towards the lower edge. The chips are printed onto the silvered glass rather than inlaid, so the surface stays flat and the pattern sits in the reflection. Above the chips the glass is plain mirror, which keeps two thirds of the piece usable as a mirror. The design is by Esther Everaert.
It suits a hallway, a bedroom or a bathroom, where it is rated to go. It hangs in four directions, and the rotation matters here in a way it does not on a plain mirror: chips at the bottom reads as a terrazzo floor, chips at the top reads as confetti falling. At 10.5kg and 2.5cm deep it is a one person lift that sits close to the wall, with two screws, washers and plugs supplied and nothing to assemble.
The mirror is printed and mirrored glass, frameless. Clean it with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth rather than onto the glass. The colours are opaque rather than translucent, so they hold their own against a dark wall as well as a pale one, and the chips are irregular rather than repeated, so the pattern does not read as a print at close range. Real terrazzo is chips set in cement and ground flat, and what the print borrows is that irregularity rather than a motif. A round size is made in the same print, and it turns on a rotating suspension where this one hangs in four fixed directions. Seven year warranty, made in Belgium.
