Description

The Tear is a three-phase track adaptor, the connecting mount that fixes a Tear spotlight head onto a powered lighting track. Track lighting works by running current through a continuous rail, with each head drawing power wherever it clips on, so a single circuit can feed several fittings along one line. This adaptor is the part that makes that link: it locks the head into the live conductors of a three-phase rail and holds it in position. It carries no light source or driver of its own, acting purely as the mechanical and electrical interface between head and track.

Because it is a fitting accessory rather than a luminaire, it has no beam or coverage figure of its own. The light output and spread come from whichever Tear head is mounted on it, while the adaptor simply sets where along the rail that head sits. It suits indoor retail displays, galleries, kitchens and open-plan rooms where heads need to be added or repositioned as a layout changes. As an IP20 component it is for dry indoor installation only and should be kept clear of bathrooms, damp areas and any outdoor location. Pairing it with a three-phase rail lets you run multiple circuits along one track, so groups of heads can be switched independently.

The body is moulded in black polyamide, a tough engineering plastic that resists knocks and keeps a clean matt finish under track-lit conditions. No driver is included, since the adaptor itself draws no power and relies on the track and head for supply. It clicks into the three-phase channel and twists to lock, holding the head securely without tools once seated. The black colour is chosen to sit discreetly against a dark track. The wider Tear range includes the matching spotlight heads and rail sections this adaptor is built to work with.

Frequently Asked

What is a track adaptor and how does it work?

It is the connector that clips a Tear spotlight head onto a powered lighting track. The track carries current along its length, and the adaptor taps into those conductors so the head it holds is powered wherever it sits on the rail. This is what lets you space and reposition heads freely along a single circuit.

What track does this adaptor fit?

It is made for three-phase track, which carries multiple circuits in one rail so groups of heads can be switched separately. It locks into the three-phase channel and is not intended for single-phase or other proprietary track systems. Pair it with Tear three-phase rail and heads for a matched installation.

Can heads be added or moved after installation?

Yes. The adaptor clicks into the track and twists to lock, so a head can be unlocked, slid to a new position and re-seated as the layout changes. This makes it well suited to retail and gallery spaces where lighting needs adjusting over time.

Is this suitable for outdoor or bathroom use?

No. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor use only, so keep it out of bathrooms, damp areas and any outdoor or sheltered-outdoor location. It is intended for interior spaces such as kitchens, galleries and retail displays.
