Description

The Tarvena is a large dome pendant light in black and gold. It has a steel shade, black outside and lined with a gold-leaf finish inside, and it hangs from a round black ceiling plate. It measures 53cm across and has an overall height of 150cm, so it fills the space above a table without crowding the room. It takes one E27 bulb of up to 60W. The bulb is not included, so you choose the colour and warmth of light yourself. With an IP20 rating it belongs indoors in a dry room, never in a bathroom or outdoors.

We see it most at home over a dining table, where the wide dome pulls light down onto the tabletop and the gold inside throws back a warm glow whenever the lamp is lit. It works just as well over a kitchen island or a breakfast table in an open-plan room. In a hallway or landing with enough height, it gives a wide space one strong focal point. Black and gold sits comfortably with warm wood, pale stone and concrete-look surfaces alike, so it suits both a darker, moodier scheme and a bright, neutral one.

The body is steel, and steel is strong and holds its shape well, which matters on a dome this wide. There is no switch on the light itself, as it is switched at the wall, and it runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains. As a wired-in fitting it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. Packed, it weighs 4.104KG. When you choose a bulb, keep to E27 and no more than 60W; a warm white bulb brings out the gold lining beautifully.
