Description

The Tanvi is a freestanding shelving unit in iron, 180cm high, 110cm wide and 36cm deep. The frame is a plain rectangle on slim square uprights with a single post running up the middle, and the shelves are sheet iron welded straight to it. Some run the full width; the rest stop at the centre post and alternate between the left side and the right, so no two openings are the same height. There is no back and no sides, so the unit sees straight through.

At 36cm deep the shelves take books, boxes and larger pieces without crowding the openings, and the staggered heights mean a tall vase and a stack of books each find a space that fits. Because it is open on both faces it stands against a wall or across a room as a divider, reachable from either side. At 180cm the top shelf sits above eye level.

The shelves are cut from sheet iron and hand welded to an iron structure, and the whole unit is finished in a matt black. The Tanvi is made in a second, narrower size, and two of them stand together as one longer run. The unit weighs 30.4kg.
