Description

A freestanding iron shelving unit, 180cm tall by 60cm wide and 36cm deep, welded up from square section tube and finished in a matt black. Six shelves sit at uneven heights across it. The second from the top runs only half the width and a pair of short uprights stands beneath it, so the top third reads as a group of small compartments while the shelves below give long open runs. Each shelf is a flat iron tray with a shallow raised lip, and there is no back panel.

At 60cm wide it takes up less wall than a bookcase, and 36cm of depth is shallow enough for a hallway where a deeper piece would catch a shoulder. Because it is open on both faces it can stand away from the wall as a divider between a sitting area and a dining one, with everything on it reachable from either side. It weighs 20.1kg, and the uneven spacing means the deep bays take a stack of books or a tall vase while the compartments at the top suit small things.

It is iron throughout. Sheet iron is cut for the shelves and hand welded to the tube frame for strength, which is what lets the uprights stay as slender as they are. The finish is a matt antique black over the whole frame. The same shelving is made in a wide version at 110cm across, and the two can stand alongside each other.
