Description

Clear glass shades, three of them, hang from a polished chrome ring measuring 35cm across, and inside each one sits a smaller silver mesh shade that filters the light and takes the glare off the lamp. The frame is shallow, so the piece reads in width rather than height. The drop adjusts widely, so it can sit fairly close to the ceiling or hang well down over a stair void.

We would hang this over a dining table, where the mesh inner shades keep the brightness off the eye line, and it earns its place in a hall with height to spare or above a stairwell landing. Each lamp is a G9 capsule and LED is what we would use, up to 10W apiece, which is ample for a piece that already carries a lot of shine. Dimming is possible provided you buy dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. It suits kitchens and dining rooms where chrome turns up elsewhere, in tap ware, handles or a mirror frame.

Construction is glass and metal: clear glass outers, silver mesh inners and polished chrome on the ring and the suspension. Dust the glass and mesh with a soft dry cloth and keep water and abrasives away from the plating; fingermarks buff out with a light pass. It is meant for dry indoor rooms, so a bathroom is the wrong home for it, and it carries a one year warranty.
