Description
Sunny Side Up is a wall mirror 105cm wide by 96cm high, cut to the flowing outline of a fried egg with a golden yolk printed off centre on the silvered glass. The outline is genuinely irregular rather than a softened circle, and the yolk is a flat printed disc with a single highlight, so the whole thing reads as a drawing at a distance and as a mirror close up. The words sunny side up are printed small at the lower right. The design is by Esther Everaert, with a nod to pop art.
It is a piece for a wall that can carry some humour: a downstairs cloakroom, a kitchen wall, a child's bedroom, a hallway that is otherwise plain. The yolk sits off centre, so which way round it hangs changes the balance a good deal, and it is worth holding it up both ways first. It hangs in one direction. It is rated bathroom proof, so a bathroom or a cloakroom is within its range. At 9kg and 2.5cm deep it is light and sits close to the wall, and two screws with washers and plugs are supplied with nothing to assemble. Give it clear wall around the outline rather than fitting it into an alcove, because the shape is the joke and cropping it flattens the effect.
The mirror is printed and mirrored glass, with the yolk printed on the surface. Clean it with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth rather than onto the glass, and wipe across the printed area lightly rather than scrubbing it. Seven year warranty, made in Europe.
