Sonanne Smoked Glass Linear Pendant Light - Black

The Sonanne is a linear pendant light with three smoked glass shades set along a slim black bar, hung from a matching black ceiling bar on two fine suspension wires. It measures 78cm long and 15cm wide, with an overall height of 110cm. The body is steel and wood in a black finish, and the shades are vaporised glass in a black-transparent tone that looks smoky grey, so the bulbs show through as a soft glow. Each shade takes an E27 bulb of up to 40W, and the bulbs are not included. It is rated IP20, which settles where it goes: indoors, in a dry room.

A long, narrow pendant is made for lighting along a surface rather than one spot, which is why it sits so well above a dining table, a kitchen table or a breakfast bar. The three shades share the work across the length of the bar, so the light falls along the whole table rather than pooling in the centre. The black and smoked glass pairing settles comfortably into a dark, modern scheme and adds a crisp, slightly industrial edge to a paler room. It suits anyone who wants good light where people eat and talk, from one well-designed piece rather than three separate pendants.

Each shade is adjustable on its own pivot, so you can aim the light straight down at the table or turn a shade outwards to wash a wall or a sideboard. There is no switch on the light itself; it is switched at the wall. Because it is wired into the mains, a qualified electrician installs it, and the installation instructions are available as a download. It runs at 220-240V, 50/60Hz, and the packed weight is 4.76KG. Before fitting, choose three E27 bulbs of 40W or less, since none come in the box, and a warm filament bulb shows nicely through the smoked glass.

Can the Sonanne pendant go in a bathroom or outdoors?

No. It is rated IP20, which means it is meant for indoor rooms that stay dry, such as a dining room or a living room.

Which bulbs does it take?

It takes three E27 bulbs, one in each shade, at a maximum of 40W each. The bulbs are not included, so you will need to buy them separately.

How big is the light?

It is 78cm long and 15cm wide, with an overall height of 110cm, and the packed weight is 4.76KG.

Can the shades be angled?

Yes. Each of the three smoked glass shades is adjustable, so you can point the light down at a table or angle a shade towards a wall.

Does it have its own switch?

No, there is no switch on the light itself, so it is controlled from the wall switch in the room where it is fitted.

What colour is the glass?

The shades are vaporised glass in a black-transparent tone, which gives a smoky grey look and lets the bulbs glow softly behind the glass.
