Description
The Solar is a cylindrical aluminium outdoor wall light finished in grey, housing two GU10 bulbs that emit light both upwards and downwards through Pyrex glass diffusers at each end. The 210mm projection from the wall and 65mm cylinder diameter give the fitting enough presence to mark doorways, porch areas, and architectural features without dominating smaller exterior walls.
Designed for residential front entrances, covered patios, and commercial building exteriors, the Solar carries an IP44 rating against water splashes and solid particles larger than 1mm. This makes it suitable for locations with overhead shelter or side-protected positions, though full weather exposure (driving rain, submersion) exceeds the IP44 specification. The dual-direction light output provides both upward wash on wall surfaces and downward illumination for steps or pathways immediately below the fitting.
The grey powder-coat finish on the aluminium body resists corrosion and fading in outdoor conditions, and the neutral tone pairs with rendered walls, brick, stone, painted timber and uPVC cladding across a range of architectural styles. The GU10 lamp holders accept standard mains-voltage bulbs up to the maximum wattage specified (bulbs sold separately), allowing control over colour temperature and brightness depending on whether the fitting is used for ambient wash or functional task light.

Frequently Asked
What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?
IP44 protects against water splashes from any direction and solid particles larger than 1mm. The Solar is suitable for covered porches, side-protected wall positions, and other locations with overhead shelter, but it is not rated for full weather exposure such as driving rain or submersion.
What bulbs does it take?
The Solar takes two GU10 mains-voltage bulbs (sold separately). Most users pair it with warm-white LED GU10s between 4W-6W and 2700K-3000K for exterior ambient lighting, or cool-white 4000K for functional security lighting.
Is it dimmable?
Yes, provided you use dimmable GU10 bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch on the mains circuit. Standard non-dimmable GU10 LEDs will not dim and may flicker or fail on a dimmer circuit.
How is it mounted?
The fitting mounts to a standard exterior wall with screws through the back plate. The electrical connection terminates inside the wall or in a suitable outdoor junction box behind the fitting. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with BS 7671 wiring regulations.
