Description

The Soft PF/30 is a bell-shaped outdoor ceiling light, pairing an Olive Grey shade with a short stem and round canopy in a Textured & Black finish. The shade is wrapped in a raised diamond pattern, so when the light is on it glows softly through the relief while the main light falls from the wide base of the bell. It measures 38cm tall overall, with a shade 24cm tall and 30cm across, and a canopy 12.1cm across and 4cm tall. It takes one E27 bulb of up to 15W, sold separately, which gives the fitting its light; at that wattage an LED bulb is the sensible choice.

Rated IP44, it is made for outdoor use, so it belongs on the ceiling of a porch, a covered terrace or a veranda, or beneath the overhang above a front door. The Olive Grey shade sits comfortably against brick, render and painted timber, and the bell shape sends a clear pool of light downwards, just what you want over a step, a doorway or a table where you eat outside. At 30cm across it is generous enough to light an entrance without crowding a low porch, and the short stem keeps the shade close to the ceiling where headroom is limited.

We like the way the muted Olive Grey of the shade plays against the crisp Textured & Black finish of the stem and canopy. It is a Class II fitting, which means it is double insulated and needs no earth connection. It runs on 230V mains and is wired in by a qualified electrician rather than plugged into a socket. Once it is up, all it asks of you is a fresh bulb when the old one is spent, and it will go on lighting your way home.
