Description

This smoked LED bulb has a spiral filament that coils up the centre of a teardrop-shaped glass, set on a brass-coloured E27 screw cap. It is 10cm long and 4.8cm across, compact enough to look neat in a slim lamp holder or a small open shade. The glass is vaporised to a black, see-through smoke, so the bulb reads as dark and glassy when it is switched off and glows a deep amber whenever it is lit. It draws 4W and gives 100lm at 2000K, a very warm white with plenty of gold in it. The IP rating is IP20, which settles where it goes: indoors, in a dry room.

Because the filament is the reason to buy it, we would put it where it is on show: a bare pendant over a dining table, an open cage shade, a wall light without a shade or a clear glass table lamp. It is not suitable as a main light source, and at 100lm it is made to set a mood rather than light a room. That makes it a good choice for a living room, a dining room, a bedroom or a home bar, anywhere you want a low, golden glow in the evening. Several hung together at different heights make a warm cluster over a table or a kitchen island, and the smoked glass keeps the look moody in daylight too.

It is dimmable, so you can bring the glow down further for a late supper or a film night, and it runs on a 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains supply. The smoked finish tones down the bright spiral and gives the bulb a vintage look.
