Description
This SMD LED strip is a flexible 5m reel of spaced surface-mount diodes that puts out a clean, even line of light. It draws 4.8W per metre and gives 500 lumens per metre in a 6500K daylight tone, with an Ra 80 colour rendering that keeps surfaces looking true. Known in the US as LED tape or tape light, it is the kind of strip used for under-cabinet, cove and shelf runs where a low-profile line of light is wanted. The strip cuts to length at the marked points along the reel, so you can size each run to the job and feed several lengths from one supply.
Inside, the daylight tone suits worktops, display shelving and home-office desks where a crisp, neutral light helps with detailed tasks. It also works well tucked into coving or behind a headboard to wash a wall or ceiling with an indirect glow. Because the diodes sit at intervals on the reel rather than in a continuous band, the light reads as a bright, defined line rather than a soft sheet, which is useful for outlining a feature or grazing a textured surface. Plan runs so the cut points fall where you need them, and keep the strip on dry indoor surfaces.
The strip carries an IP00 rating, so it is for dry indoor positions only and should be kept clear of kitchens splash zones, washrooms and any damp or outdoor location. It runs on 12V DC and is not mains-direct, so it needs a matching 12V LED driver, sized to the total wattage of the run and bought separately. Rated for 15,000 hours and weighing just 56g, the reel mounts on its self-adhesive backing along a clean, flat surface. We also stock the IP65 coated version of this range for sheltered, splash-prone settings.

Frequently Asked
Does this strip need a separate driver?
Yes. It runs on 12V DC, not mains voltage, so it must be powered through a 12V LED driver. Size the driver to the total wattage of the run you install, at 4.8W per metre, and buy it separately unless supplied as part of a kit.
Can the strip be cut to length?
Yes. The reel cuts only at the marked cut points spaced along its length, so plan each run so a cut falls where you need it. Each cut section can then be wired back to the driver, letting you feed several lengths from one supply.
Is this strip suitable for outdoor or bathroom use?
No. It is rated IP00, which means dry indoor positions only. Keep it clear of bathrooms, kitchen splash zones and any damp or outdoor location, and choose the IP65 coated version of the range for those settings.
What colour and brightness does it give?
It produces a 6500K daylight tone at 500 lumens per metre, a crisp, neutral white well suited to worktops and task areas. The Ra 80 colour rendering keeps surfaces and materials looking natural under the light.
