Description

A straight-sided cylinder wrapped in faux silk, with a taupe face and a halo gold lining. The gold picks up the light passing down through it and warms the pool it throws onto a table or floor, while the taupe keeps the outside quiet against a painted wall. At 30cm across it is broader than it is deep, so it sits as a wide band of fabric rather than a tall drum. Those proportions suit a slim-stemmed base, where a deeper shade would swallow the lamp beneath it.

It works over a dining or coffee table on a pendant flex, on a bedside lamp base, or on a floor standard beside a reading chair. We reach for it in rooms that already carry plenty of pattern and colour, where the shade is asked to settle things rather than lead them. Being non-electric, it borrows its lamp from the fitting it goes on: we would choose a GLS A60 LED, rated no higher than 20W, which keeps the fabric cool and lights the gold lining evenly across.

Both layers are faux silk, taupe on the outside and gold within, and the shade holds a true round shape across that width. To keep it looking right, lift dust away with a soft brush or a vacuum upholstery head on its lowest setting, and keep sprays and damp cloths off the fabric, as faux silk shows watermarks. It carries a one year warranty.
