Description

A flat woven rug 300cm long and 200cm wide, in an undyed oatmeal wool with a fine vertical striation running all through the ground. The pattern is worked in relief rather than in colour: raised braided lines run straight across the middle of the rug, with a broad shallow zigzag above them and another below, every one of them in the same natural tone as the ground around it. Close to, the raised lines read as a plaited rope lying in the surface.

At 300 by 200cm this is a room sized rug rather than a hearth one. On bare boards in front of a sofa it takes the front legs of the sofa and still leaves floor showing round the edge. In a bedroom it will run past the foot of a double bed with a walkway on three sides. At 2cm deep it is thick enough to feel underfoot on bare boards, and thick enough to catch a chair leg pushed back from a table.

It is woven on a traditional Indian handloom, and the raised lines are worked into the weave rather than laid on top of it. The dyes used are Azo free and have been tested for both colourfastness and lightfastness. The same rug is also made at 150 by 240cm.

Frequently Asked

What size is it?

300cm by 200cm, and 2cm deep.

How do I clean a wool rug?

Blot spills straight away with a clean sponge, and vacuum with care. Avoid a vacuum with a rotating brush, which can damage the fibres. For a stubborn stain, take professional advice rather than working at it.

Will it shed?

Some shedding of fibre is to be expected from a rug woven in natural fibre.

Does it need an underlay?

On a hard floor, yes. A rug pad or liner underneath will protect it from wear and stop it sliding.

Where should it not go?

Out of direct sunlight, and away from direct heat and from moisture.
