Description
These cast iron wall hooks come as a set of three, each one topped with a small bird worked in raised relief. Its feathers, wing, eye and beak are picked out across the surface. Two of the birds sit in profile, facing opposite ways. The third stands upright and slim with its tail dropping straight down, so the three look like a little flock when they hang side by side. Below each bird runs a short iron stem with a single screw hole, curving out into an upturned hook with a rounded tip. All three are black, and they measure 18cm high and 15.5cm wide.
A hook earns its place where things pile up, and these suit a hallway, a landing, a boot room or the back of a bedroom door, ready for a coat, a scarf or a bag. In a kitchen they will hold a tea towel or an apron close to hand. Because there are three, you can space them along a wall, stagger them at different heights, or share them between rooms. The black iron sits as happily against painted plaster or tongue and groove panelling as it does against bare brick. The birds bring a gentle country feel without taking up much room.
Each hook is cast in iron, so it feels solid in the hand, and the raised feathering gives the surface a fine texture that catches the light. To put one up, a single screw through the hole in the stem holds it flat to the wall; choose a screw and wall plug that suit your wall. As with any iron piece, keep the hooks dry and dust them with a soft dry cloth. They make an easy, practical present, and we like to hang the two profile birds facing one another with the upright bird between them, like a little row gathered on a branch.
