Description

The Scogliera-E is a square outdoor wall light in black: a crisp, square-edged block that sends one beam of light upward and another downward across the wall. It is 14cm high, 7cm in length and stands 9cm out from the wall, so it sits neatly beside a door without crowding a narrow path. The body is black plastic and the shade is transparent plastic. It takes two GU10 bulbs of up to 5W each, and the bulbs are not included. Its IP44 rating settles where it can go: it is protected from splashing water, so it can live outdoors on a house wall or in the garden, rain and all.

It is well placed either side of a front door, along a porch, beside a back door or on a garden wall, where the two beams pick out the texture of render or brick and mark the way in after dark. Because it is compact and plain, it suits modern and traditional homes alike, and a pair on either side of an entrance gives a balanced, welcoming look. The black finish stays understated against pale walls by day, while at night the glow does the work and the fitting itself recedes.

There is no switch on the light, as it is switched at the wall, and as a wired mains fitting, it is installed by a qualified electrician. The plastic body cannot rust, which matters on a wall that takes the weather all year, and the whole light weighs 0.281KG packed, so it is easy to handle. The installation instructions come as a download. When you choose bulbs, pick two GU10 bulbs of no more than 5W each, since the light is rated for a maximum of 2 x 5W; the colour and warmth of the glow are then entirely yours to decide.
