Description

Scalinata takes its name from the staircase, and the arrangement explains why. Twenty five cube shades of natural Spanish alabaster descend in a long diagonal cascade, each hung on its own fine cable from a square brass canopy, so the group steps down through the space instead of sitting level. Every shade is a true cube with crisp vertical corners, and the two faces visible at any one angle take the light differently, which is what gives the cascade its depth.

The canopy measures 570mm square and each alabaster cube is 120mm. That figure is the fixing footprint on the ceiling, not the size of the fitting, which spreads and drops well beyond it once the cables are set. Cable lengths are decided at installation, so the pitch and depth of the cascade are yours to choose. The alabaster is translucent, so each cube glows from within rather than casting a hard beam, and twenty five of them read as a scatter of soft points held at different heights.

Each cube is cut from natural Spanish alabaster and the veining runs differently through every one, so no two shades in the cascade match. The canopy and the small caps at the top of each cable are brass. Lamping is G9 and bulbs are supplied separately, which lets you choose the output and colour temperature that suit the room. Rated IP20 for interior use. Scalinata also runs as an eighteen and a thirty six light cascade, and as a round canopy cluster in seven, nine, twelve and eighteen light drops.
