Two lamps sit behind an opal white glass diffuser, with clear crystal glass drops ringing the rim to catch the light and throw a little sparkle across the ceiling. The frame is polished chrome, bright and reflective, and the whole fitting is round and shallow, 30cm across. It takes candle LED lamps, which we would choose for the low heat and long life, and it will dim if you pair them with a compatible dimmer. Neither lamps nor dimmer are supplied.

We reach for a fitting like this in hallways, landings and small bedrooms, anywhere a pendant would hang awkwardly close to head height. The opal glass softens the output, which makes it kind for a landing light left burning late, while the crystal stops the shape looking too plain. It sits well in rooms that already have chrome taps or handles, and in bedrooms where you want a little glitter without a heavy chandelier overhead. Keep it to dry rooms indoors: hall, bedroom, sitting room, rather than a shower room or a covered porch.

Glass and crystal do the work here, held in a chromed metal frame with a high polish that keeps the fitting looking crisp against a white ceiling. The crystal is clear, cut to pick up whatever light is in the room even when the lamps are off. For care, turn it off at the switch and let the glass cool before you touch it; a dry microfibre cloth lifts dust from the crystal, and a light buff keeps fingermarks off the chrome. What lamps does it take, and how many?

It holds two E27 lamps, rated to a maximum of 20W each. We would fit LED candle lamps in the C35 shape, as they sit neatly behind the opal diffuser. Lamps are not included.

Can I put it on a dimmer?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps with a matched dimmer switch. No dimmer is supplied with the fitting.

How much space does it need on the ceiling?

It is 300mm in diameter and stands 150mm deep, so it stays close to the ceiling and keeps headroom clear in a hall or a low-ceilinged bedroom.

How do I clean the crystal without dulling it?

Switch off first and let everything cool. A dry microfibre cloth is enough for the crystal drops; if they need more, a barely damp cloth followed by a dry one. Keep sprays and household cleaners away from the chrome.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which means dry indoor rooms only, so choose it for halls, bedrooms and living spaces instead.
