Description

The Sarmarne is a wooden pendant light: a round shade built from curved slats in a maple colour, with a body of steel in a satin nickel finish. The shade is 50cm in diameter and the light measures 150cm overall, from the ceiling canopy to the base of the sphere, so it suits a room with good ceiling height. It takes a single E27 bulb of up to 60W, and the bulb is not included. Rated IP20, it is made for dry rooms indoors, which settles where it belongs: a living room, dining room, bedroom or hallway rather than a bathroom or a garden.

At 50cm in diameter the sphere has real presence, so we picture it over a dining table, in a stairwell or at the centre of a generous living room, where it can be admired from every side. The slats curve from top to bottom with narrow gaps between them, so light passes between the slats and the bulb is glimpsed through the gaps. The maple colour sits well beside oak floors, linen, rattan and soft neutral walls, while the satin nickel canopy and lampholder add a cool note against the wood. For a natural or Scandinavian scheme, it is an easy pendant to choose.

The steel body comes in a satin nickel finish, matched by the ceiling canopy, and the shade is wood in a maple colour. There is no switch on the light itself: it is switched at the wall, so it works from the room's wall switch.
