Description

The Sanja is a straight sided drum in handwoven cotton, off white with a fine dark stripe stitched in at close intervals down the length of it. The stripes sit slightly proud of the ground and waver rather than running dead straight, and the cotton is a coarse plain weave with the slub visible. The sides run parallel rather than tapering. This is the medium: 22cm tall and 30cm across.

Thirty centimetres is the width most ordinary table lamps are built around, so this is the size that fits a lamp already in the room, and the straight sides change what it does there. A tapered shade sits down over a base and hides it; a drum stands above it and leaves the base visible, which suits a turned wooden or glass body that is worth seeing. The vertical stripe reinforces that by carrying the eye upward. It fits a table lamp, a floor lamp or a ceiling pendant. It weighs 0.42kg.

The stripe is stitched onto the woven cotton by hand over an iron frame, so its spacing and line differ from shade to shade. The Sanja range runs from small through this medium and large to extra large. No bulb, base or fitting is included.
