Description
The Sangamo Choice Plus is a 7-day programmable room thermostat with a backlit LCD display, TPI (Time Proportional and Integral) control, and a volt-free 3A contact rating. The thermostat allows six time and temperature events per day, with separate programming for each day of the week or a single 24-hour pattern repeated across all seven days. An electronic sensor provides accurate temperature measurement between 5°C and 35°C, with adjustable temperature swing of 0.5°C or 1°C to fine-tune cycling behaviour.
Designed for wired installation in residential heating systems, the Choice Plus controls gas, oil and electric boilers via a volt-free relay contact. The TPI control algorithm modulates boiler on/off cycles based on how far the room temperature sits from the set point, reducing energy waste and temperature overshoot compared to simple on/off switching. Optimum Start calculates when to fire the boiler before a programmed event so the target temperature is reached exactly at the scheduled time, while Delay Start and Delayed Stop features prevent unnecessary firing during brief temperature drops or rises.
The thermostat runs on AA batteries (supplied) with low-battery indication on the display, so programming and timekeeping continue during mains power cuts. A pre-programmed schedule is loaded at the factory, allowing immediate use without configuration, though all settings can be adjusted via the three-button interface below the screen. The white plastic casing measures 166mm wide by 90mm tall with a 40mm profile from the wall, and the backlit display shows current temperature, set temperature, time, day of week, and system status simultaneously.

Frequently Asked
What does TPI control do?
TPI (Time Proportional and Integral) control adjusts the frequency and duration of boiler firing cycles based on how far the measured room temperature sits from the set point. When the room is far below target, the boiler fires for longer periods; as the temperature approaches the set point, firing cycles shorten. This reduces energy waste and prevents temperature overshoot compared to simple on/off thermostats.
How does Optimum Start work?
Optimum Start calculates how long the heating system takes to raise the room temperature from its current level to the programmed target, then fires the boiler early so the target temperature is reached exactly at the scheduled time. This feature learns the thermal characteristics of the building over the first few days of operation.
What boiler types is it compatible with?
The Choice Plus provides a volt-free 3A relay contact, making it compatible with gas, oil and electric boilers that accept a standard switched live or volt-free connection. Check your boiler manual for thermostat wiring requirements before installation.
Does programming survive a power cut?
Yes. The thermostat runs on AA batteries (supplied), so all programming, timekeeping and temperature measurement continue during mains power cuts. A low-battery indicator appears on the display when the batteries need replacing.
