The unit uses TPI (Time Proportional and Integral) control to cycle the boiler on and off in short bursts rather than running continuously, reducing fuel consumption and maintaining a more stable room temperature than traditional on/off thermostats.

Designed for wall mounting in a living room, hallway or landing where room temperature represents the average across the property, the thermostat connects to the boiler via a 3A volt-free contact and works with gas, oil, LPG and electric heating systems. The optimum start feature calculates when to fire the boiler ahead of a programmed time to reach the target temperature exactly when needed, while the delayed stop continues to circulate residual heat after the boiler cuts off, extracting maximum efficiency from each heating cycle.

The thermostat arrives with a pre-programmed schedule ready for immediate use, typically set to 21°C during waking hours and 16°C overnight, which can be adjusted via the three-button interface. Temperature swing settings of 0.5°C or 1.0°C allow fine control over how tightly the thermostat maintains the set temperature. The electronic sensor provides 0.1°C resolution and the frost protection mode holds the temperature at 5°C when the property is unoccupied to prevent pipe freezing. Battery-powered operation (batteries supplied) means no need for mains wiring at the thermostat location.
