Description

The Rustic large pillar candle is 18cm tall and 10cm across, poured in a muted brick rust. The wax keeps the marks of the mould and of its own cooling: shallow craters over the sides, a pale bloom drawn across them, and a top that sits a little higher on one side than the other. A single white wick stands at the centre of the pour.

Ten centimetres across makes this a wide pillar, and at 18cm it stands a head taller than the small one in the same colour. It was made for the generously sized candle holders, the ones with a wide dish rather than a socket. On its own it takes the middle of a laid table, a mantelpiece or a sideboard without needing anything beside it.

Soy blend wax, poured by hand into moulds in small batches in India by local makers. The pitted face is what the pour leaves rather than a finish worked in later, so no two candles carry the same pattern of craters and bloom. Below it the same rust is poured as a 15 by 8cm pillar and an 8 by 7cm mini, and as a pair of dinner candles. The holder is sold separately.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

18cm tall and 10cm across.

What is it made from?

A soy wax blend, poured by hand.

Is a holder included?

No. The holder is bought separately.

Are there other sizes?

Yes. The same rust is poured as a 15 by 8cm pillar and an 8 by 7cm mini.

How should it be burned?

Within sight, and never left unattended. Do not move it while it is lit or before the wax has set. Trim the wick to 0.6cm each time, burn it for no more than four hours at a stretch, keep matchsticks and wick trimmings out of the wax, keep it away from anything flammable, and stand it on a heat-resistant holder, because it may drip.
