Description

The Romy Drum Table Lamp sets a wide drum shade in beige raw cotton on a slim column of black marble. The marble base is a neat cylinder, 18cm tall and 10cm across, with fine pale veining running through the dark stone. Above it sits the drum shade, 35cm across and 20cm tall, its woven cotton softening the light from the bulb into an even glow. The lamp takes one E27 bulb, which is not included, so you choose the bulb and the tone of light that suits your room.

We see it on a bedside table, a sideboard, a hall console or the corner of a desk, in a living room, bedroom or study. The base needs only 10cm of surface, so it suits a narrow bedside table, while the 35cm shade gives it enough presence to stand beside a sofa or an armchair. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only. It switches simply on and off rather than dimming, which keeps it easy for a bedside or a reading chair. The 2m textile cable gives you some freedom to place it a little way from the wall socket.

The construction is straightforward: a marble base, a raw cotton shade and a textile cable. The cotton has a visible, slightly irregular weave that gives the shade a soft texture by day and a diffused look once lit, while the black marble gives the lamp a grounded look at its foot. It runs on 220 to 240V mains and carries a 3 year guarantee. For styling, the black and beige pairing sits comfortably with oak, walnut, linen and warm whites; try a pair either side of a bed, or one on a sideboard with a stack of books and a small bowl beside it.
