Description

The Roja is a large iron planter: a plain cylinder 60cm tall and 45cm across that draws in at the shoulder to a rolled rim 34cm wide. The surface is oxidised rather than painted, and it runs through rust orange, grey-green and a warm bronze in bands and streaks that differ across the body. The base is flat and the wall is unbroken from foot to shoulder.

At 60cm tall and 45cm across this is a floor planter rather than a table one, and it takes a tall, slim tree. The opening is 34cm, so a nursery pot up to that width will drop straight inside. It is meant to be used with an inner pot rather than filled with compost directly.

Each planter is formed from iron and the sections are put together by hand, and the oxidation is then encouraged rather than left to happen on its own, which is why the tone, the pattern and the texture differ from one planter to the next. Nothing is painted or lacquered over it; the colour is the surface of the metal itself. The Roja is made in this one size.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

60cm tall and 45cm across, with a 34cm opening.

Can I plant straight into it?

No. Use an inner pot inside it rather than putting compost in directly.

What plants suit it?

Ones that need only light watering or a spray.

Will every planter look the same?

Not exactly. The oxidation is encouraged rather than printed on, so the tone and the pattern fall differently on every planter.

How do I look after it?

Clean it now and then with warm water and a mild dish soap. Do not leave it to soak, and keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off it.
