The Roberval is a set of two hand-painted abstract artworks, each in a slim black frame. Broad black bands sweep across an off-white ground, and the paint has real texture: the black areas are raised and grainy, while the pale areas carry fine ridges and creases where the paint has been worked by hand. Each piece is 43cm high, 33cm wide and 3cm deep, a portrait shape that sits comfortably on most walls. The two compositions differ, yet they read as a matched pair when they hang side by side.

Because the palette is strictly black and off-white, the set works with almost any scheme, from pale, pared-back rooms to walls painted in deeper colours.
