The Rivale is a single-light ceramic pendant light: a shallow dome shade with a deep, ruffled edge that rolls in soft waves around its rim, glazed in Oatstone, a warm, mottled oatmeal and honey colour. Beneath the shade hangs a glass globe that holds one bulb, and you choose the glass: Clear, Frosted or Opal. It is 8.5cm tall and 21cm across, compact enough to hang low without crowding a table. The brass metalwork comes in Antique Brass, Antique Silver, Matt Black, Polished Brass or Satin Brass, and the Matt Black finish is RAL 9005.

We see the Rivale over a dining table, where the wavy shade can hang low and the globe casts its light down onto the table, or in a living room, hung over a side table or in a quiet corner. Hung on its own it gives a small table a clear focus, and over a longer table several can hang in a line. Your choice of glass settles the character of that light: Clear glass leaves the bulb on view for a bright, sparkling light, while Frosted and Opal glass soften it to an even glow, kinder where you sit and talk. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

The shade is ceramic, glazed in Oatstone, with brass fittings and a glass globe, and every light is made to order for you in Ireland. The maker guarantees the fittings it makes for five years from the date of purchase; bulbs are not covered. Bulbs are sold separately: the Rivale takes one G9 bulb, up to 6.5W per bulb, and you can choose its colour and brightness to suit the room.
