Description

The Rivale is a flush ceiling light with a ceramic shade, made to sit close to the ceiling. A rounded dome canopy holds a shallow shade with a softly ruffled rim, and a glass globe sits beneath it. The shade is glazed in Red Iron, a rich red-brown with a fine crackle that lets a paler layer show through towards the edge, and that glaze is the same on every version. The fitting is 15.5cm tall and 21cm across, a compact size that keeps it neat on a lower ceiling.

You choose two things. The metalwork comes in Satin Brass, Antique Brass, Antique Silver, Matt Black or Polished Brass, with Matt Black painted to RAL 9005, and the globe comes in Opal, Clear or Frosted glass. Each finish sits differently against the red glaze, so it is worth matching it to the door handles, hooks and other metalwork nearby. We think it suits a hallway best, where a flush fitting keeps the headroom clear and gives a friendly first light by the front door. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

Each light is made to order for you in Ireland, from brass, ceramic and glass. It is a mains fitting, to be wired in by a qualified electrician. Bulbs are sold separately: it takes one G9 bulb, at up to 5W per bulb, so pick a G9 bulb within that limit before your electrician arrives. The maker guarantees the fittings it makes for five years from the date of purchase; bulbs are not covered. With the bulb ready and the finish and glass chosen, it is a small fitting that brings colour and texture to a plain ceiling. Our photographs show the Satin Brass finish.
