Description

The Rivale is a flush ceiling light that sits close to the ceiling, with a ruffled ceramic shade in a Black Clay glaze cupping a glass globe. It is made from brass, ceramic and glass, and measures 15.5cm tall and 21cm across, so it keeps a low profile without looking plain. You choose the metal finish from Antique Brass, Antique Silver, Matt Black, Polished Brass or Satin Brass, and the globe from Opal, Clear or Frosted glass, so the metal and the glass can be matched to your room. The Black Clay glaze stays the same whichever you pick.

Sitting flush rather than hanging, it suits a hallway, where a low ceiling or a tall visitor leaves no room for a pendant. We like it there because the ruffled edge of the shade gives a passing space some texture overhead, and the pale crackled pattern on the underside of the glaze shows as you walk beneath it. It takes a single bulb, so it works well as the one light in a small hall or as one of a pair along a longer corridor. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

Every Rivale is made to order for you in Ireland, in brass, ceramic and glass. If you choose the Matt Black finish, its colour is RAL 9005, which helps if you are matching it to paintwork or other fittings in your home. The bulb is sold separately: it takes one G9 bulb, up to 5W per bulb. The maker guarantees the fittings it makes for five years from the date of purchase, though bulbs are not covered. It is wired in to the mains, so it is for a qualified electrician to install; have a G9 bulb ready and it lights your hallway as soon as it is fitted. Our photographs show the Antique Brass finish.
