Description

The Riad is a flush ceiling light with a clear glass globe 30cm across, held close to the ceiling on a brass ceiling plate and gallery. The whole fitting is 37cm tall, so it brings the light of a single bulb into a room without hanging down on a long drop. It takes one E27 bulb of up to 60W, and bulbs are sold separately, so you can pick the one that suits the room. It comes in six finishes: Polished Brass, Antique Brass, Antique Silver, Polished Chrome, Satin Brass and Satin Chrome, so the same glass globe can sit with warm or cool metalwork elsewhere in your home.

A flush fitting suits a hallway well. A pendant on a long drop can crowd a narrow space, especially where the ceiling is lower than you would like, while the Riad sits tight to the ceiling and still gives the open, airy look of a large glass globe overhead. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only. As a mains fitting, it is for a qualified electrician to install.

Every Riad is made to order for you in Ireland, from brass and glass, with the globe held in the gallery beneath the ceiling plate. The maker guarantees the fittings it makes for five years from the date of purchase; bulbs are not covered. Because the glass is clear, the bulb inside stays on view from every angle, so it is worth choosing one you will be happy to look at as well as see by. When you settle on a finish, compare it with the switches, door handles and other metalwork nearby, since the plate and gallery are the parts that set the tone once the light is up. Our photographs show the Polished Brass, Antique Brass, Antique Silver, Polished Chrome and Satin Brass finishes.
