Description

Eight small glass baubles, each 6cm long and 2cm across, blown into a faceted drop that narrows to a point at the base. Two kinds run through the set: a deep transparent merlot and a dusty pink carrying a silvered mercury mottle inside the glass, with the tones between them running from blush through rose to near red. Each is capped with a scalloped antique gold collar and a dark ring, and hangs from a flat tan suede tie.

Six centimetres long and 2cm across is small for a bauble, which is what a set of eight is for: they hang as a run along a branch or a wreath rather than singly, and at that width they fit between larger decorations without crowding them. The facets are cut deep enough to break a light into separate points as the bauble turns on its tie.

The glass is recycled and each bauble is blown by hand into the faceted form, so the tone and the depth of the cutting vary across a set. Ratnam also runs as a set of four in the same merlot mix, as a set of four in antique pink, and as a larger single bauble at 20cm and 25cm tall. The caps are metal in an antique gold finish.
