Description

A set of four hand blown glass baubles, each 8cm long and 3.5cm across, faceted into a short tapering drop that comes to a point at the bottom. All four carry the same shape and differ in colour: two are a deeper coral pink heavily freckled with a mercury speckle, and two are a paler, clearer pink with the speckle scattered more thinly. Each is capped in dark metal with a ring at the top, and a tie is knotted through the ring.

At 8cm these are small baubles. Four of them will dress a wreath or a tabletop tree on their own, and on a full sized tree they read as points of colour among larger decorations rather than carrying a branch by themselves. The facets take the light in flat planes, so the four do not all catch it from one position and a group reads as several tones of pink rather than one.

The glass is recycled and is blown by hand into a faceted form, so each drop is cut the same way while the tone runs differently from one bauble to the next. The speckling is put on as a mercury effect and it sits unevenly, heavier on two of the four than on the other two. Every tie is one of a kind, so no two are alike. The Ratnam range also holds single baubles at 20cm and 25cm, in merlot as well as antique pink.
