Description

The Rammi is a tall laundry basket built from lengths of rattan set upright, bound at the rim and at the base and held by two woven bands that run round the body. It stands 72cm high on a rounded oblong footprint of 45 by 33cm, and a looped rattan handle rises above the rim at each end. The uprights are spaced apart, so whatever is in the basket shows through the sides.

At 72cm it stands about as tall as a dining table, with the opening at the top of that, so laundry goes in without stooping. The 45 by 33cm footprint is narrow enough to take the gap between a wardrobe and a wall, or the run of wall beside a bathroom door. In a bedroom against a wall it holds folded bedding, which shows through the rods.

The basket is rattan throughout, rods, bands and handles alike. Rattan reaches full size and is cut within two years, where a hardwood takes very much longer. The base is woven closed. There is no lid and no liner, so the laundry sits against the rattan. The Rammi range also holds a shorter laundry basket of the same build, at 53cm.
