Description
The RADAN DTO50 is a round recessed downlight built to take a single MR16 reflector lamp on a Gx5.3 base, running at 12V (12 AC or 12 DC) and rated up to 10W. In the US this fitting sits in the recessed can light family, holding the lamp flush within the ceiling so the trim reads as a neat circular aperture. With a round profile measuring Ø82mm and a shallow 24mm body depth, it gives a directional pool of light from the chosen MR16 bulb, letting you set the beam character through the lamp rather than the housing.
Indoor ceilings are its place, and the compact footprint suits hallways, landings, kitchens and living areas where a clean run of recessed points is wanted. The output and spread depend on the MR16 lamp fitted, so coverage is best judged by the bulb you select; for general lighting a tighter cluster of fittings builds even brightness across a room, while wider spacing gives accent pools over worktops or seating. Because the body is only 24mm deep, it fits ceilings with limited void space above the plasterboard. Plan the layout around the lamp's beam so adjacent fittings overlap their light at the working surface.
The housing is made from aluminium alloy in an aluminium finish, weighing 70g, which keeps it light to handle and helps draw heat away from the lamp. It is rated IP20, so it is intended for dry indoor locations only and should be kept clear of bathrooms, damp areas and any outdoor position. The fitting is recessed into the ceiling, dropping into a circular cut-out, and the Gx5.3 holder accepts a standard 12V MR16 lamp supplied separately. The RADAN range covers a set of matching MR16 downlights, so several variants can be specified together for a consistent ceiling scheme.

Frequently Asked
What size cut-out does it need?
The fitting has an overall diameter of Ø82mm, and the ceiling cut-out is the smaller hole the body drops into, sitting just inside that trim diameter. Always check the recess depth too, as the body is 24mm deep and needs clearance in the ceiling void.
Does it need a transformer?
Yes. It runs at 12V (12 AC or 12 DC) using an MR16 lamp on a Gx5.3 base, so it needs a suitable 12V transformer or driver rated for the lamp load, which can be up to 10W per fitting. Size the supply to the total wattage of all the downlights on it.
Can it be used in a bathroom or outdoors?
No. It is rated IP20, which means it is for dry indoor use only. Keep it out of bathrooms, shower zones, damp areas and any outdoor or sheltered-outdoor position, and choose a higher IP-rated fitting for those locations.
How do I clean the downlight?
Switch off the power and let the lamp cool, then wipe the aluminium trim with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners and solvents so the aluminium finish stays unmarked.
