Description

The RADAN DSO50 is a round recessed downlight built around a single MR16 lamp on a Gx5.3 base, running on 12V AC or DC and taking a bulb up to 10W. Known in the US as a recessed can light, it sits flush into the ceiling for a clean, low-profile finish that draws the eye to the light rather than the fitting. The lamp is supplied separately, so the beam angle, colour temperature and exact output are set by the MR16 you choose, giving you control over how tight or wide the pool of light falls.

At 79mm across and just 24mm deep, the DSO50 suits hallways, landings, alcoves and display niches where a compact recessed point of light is needed. Because output depends on the chosen MR16 lamp, plan a downlight every metre or so for even general lighting, or cluster two or three over a feature wall, shelf or piece of art for accent throw. It pairs well with standard residential ceiling heights, and several units can be wired across a room from a single 12V transformer to keep the spacing and brightness consistent. This is a dry indoor fitting rated IP20, so keep it to living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and similar interior spaces.

Construction is aluminium alloy with an aluminium finish, helping the fitting dissipate lamp heat while staying neutral against most ceiling colours. The 12V supply means each lamp is fed from a separate transformer or driver, which must be specified to match the lamp load, and dimming depends on both the chosen MR16 and a compatible dimmer. The fitting recesses into the ceiling and is held by spring clips behind the trim, so a suitable cut-out and clearance above the plasterboard are needed.
