Description

The Prenvanne is a flush ceiling light with a tiered drum shade woven from bast, a natural plant fibre, in a warm natural colour. A wide tapered drum sits over a smaller inner drum, and each is finished with a neat trim at its edges, so the shade looks soft and layered rather than flat. At the top, a black steel canopy holds the light close to the ceiling, with a slim black frame inside the shade. It measures 50cm in diameter and 19cm high, and it weighs 1.04KG. It takes an E27 bulb, which is not included, and its IP20 rating settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms.

Because it sits close to the ceiling, the Prenvanne suits rooms where a hanging pendant would feel too low, such as a bedroom, a hallway, a landing or a living room with a modest ceiling height. At 50cm across it gives a generous spread of shade over a bed or a seating area, and the woven texture brings warmth to rooms dressed in linen, pale wood and stone. The black canopy draws a crisp line where the shade meets the ceiling, which suits a modern room as readily as a relaxed, rustic one. Keep it indoors and dry: with an IP20 rating, it does not belong in a bathroom or anywhere outdoors.

Inside the shade, a black frame holds both drums in line and keeps the lampholder at the centre, so light falls through the open base of each drum. There is no switch on the light itself: it is switched at the wall, and it runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains. As a wired-in mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. Choose your own E27 bulb to set the mood; we find a warm white bulb sits especially well against the natural shade.
