Description

The Pranvette is a caged lantern outdoor wall light, with a clear plastic shade held inside a frame of brown zinc-plated steel. A curved arm drops the lantern from a round wall plate, a wide, shallow hood shelters the top and a small ball finial finishes the base. It stands 28cm tall, measures 22cm in length and projects 28cm from the wall, a comfortable size beside a front door. It takes one E27 bulb of up to 60W, which is not included, so you choose the warmth of the light yourself. The IP44 rating means it is protected from splashing water, so it can live outdoors on a house wall in all weathers.

This is a light for porches, front and back doors, garden walls and the side of a garage, anywhere a traditional lantern shape suits the house. The brown finish sits well against brick, render and stone, and it gives cottages and newer homes alike a softer, older look at the entrance. Because corner mounting is possible, it can also go on the corner of a building, which gives you more choice where flat wall space is short. The clear shade lets the bulb show through the cage, so a filament-style bulb makes a good pairing.

The body is zinc-plated steel, and zinc plating protects steel against rust, which matters on an outside wall. The brown finish has a speckled, hammered texture with a coppery fleck, so it reads as weathered metal rather than flat paint. There is no switch on the light itself: it runs from your existing wall switch at 220-240V, 50/60Hz. As a wired-in mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. Packed, it weighs 1.3KG. Ahead of fitting, choose an E27 bulb of no more than 60W, as one is not in the box.
