Description

The Plafonet 95 is a large round ceiling light that sits close to the ceiling as a broad, shallow drum, 95cm across at the top and 20cm tall. It comes with a choice of three shades: White Translucent Ribbon, Cream Translucent Ribbon or White Cotton. A white diffuser closes the underside. You choose the light source as well. The LED version has a 58W integrated LED, so there is no bulb to buy. It gives warm 2700K light with a CRI of 90, so colours look true, and it is TRIAC dimmable, so it works with a compatible dimmer. The E27 version takes six E27 bulbs of up to 15W each, not included.

At 95cm across, this is a ceiling light for generous rooms: a living room, a dining room, a wide hallway or landing, an open-plan living space, or a hotel reception where one fitting has to light a large area. Because it sits flush rather than hanging, it suits rooms with ordinary ceiling heights as well as tall ones, and it keeps sight lines clear across the room. The translucent ribbon shades glow softly through their pleats when lit, giving an even look to the whole drum. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

The fitting is made from iron and brass and is Class II, which means it is double insulated. It runs on 230V mains power, wired in by an electrician, and like every mains fitting it is for a qualified electrician to install. When you order, choose the shade and the light source together: the LED version if you want dimmable light with no bulbs to buy, or the E27 version if you would rather choose your own bulbs. Either way, you get one broad, calm drum that fills a large ceiling with a single simple shape. Our photographs show the white version.
