Description
Pebbles is a wall mirror 125cm high by 83cm wide, built as two overlapping shapes: an organic mirrored form floating over a boulder shape in black lacquered glass. Where they overlap the reflection carries on faintly through the black, so the front shape does not simply sit on top of the back one. The whole piece turns on its fixing through a full circle, which moves the drawing rather than just levelling it. The design is by Annemie Vanzieleghem.
It works where a plain mirror would be too quiet: a hallway, a bedroom wall, a bathroom where it is rated to go. Because the composition is asymmetric, rotating it changes which shape leads and how the two overlap read against the wall, so it is worth turning it through a few positions before settling. At 17kg and 4cm deep it is a comfortable one person lift and stands slightly clear of the wall, with two screws, washers and plugs supplied and nothing to assemble. Give it a plain wall; the two shapes are already doing the work and a patterned ground competes with them.
The mirror is mirrored glass over black lacquered glass on a rotating suspension. Clean it with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth rather than onto the glass, and take the cloth along the join between the two shapes rather than across it. The black lacquer shows marks more readily than the mirrored area, so wipe it dry after. The mirrored shape is cut to an outline that does not repeat anywhere else in the range, so the piece reads as a one off rather than as a size in a family. Seven year warranty, made in Belgium.
