Description

Ovaline sets a cast brass ring into the face of a plate of natural Spanish alabaster, and in this version both the plate and the ring are stretched into a tall stadium shape. The ring is not smooth: it carries a hammered, pitted texture that catches light along its rim and reads as worked metal rather than a machined bezel. The plate stands 460mm tall by 190mm wide and projects 76mm from the wall.

The LED behind the plate lights the alabaster from within, and because the ring is open along its middle the brightest part of the fitting is the long aperture rather than the rim. Light spreads outward from that slot through the stone and falls away towards the edges, so the plate reads as a lit outline around a brighter core. The vertical proportion makes it the one to use where a round disc would leave the wall looking short.

The ring and its concealed fixing are brushed brass and the plate is cut from natural Spanish alabaster, so the veining, the translucency and the way the light gathers behind the ring differ from piece to piece. No two are alike. Rated IP20 for interior use. Ovaline also comes as a 350mm round disc, which takes the same ring detail on a circle for a wider, lower stretch of wall. Because the fitting is lit from behind rather than through the ring alone, the plate still reads as a lit object when the slot itself is out of your sightline. Both sizes share that behaviour.
