Description

The Otoro cluster hangs three clear glass shades from a single round brass ceiling plate, each on its own brass chain with a rust coloured fabric flex twisted through it, and each at a different drop so the three sit at three heights. The shades are three different shapes from the Otoro range: a wide flattened sphere highest, a rounded bell below it, and a tall oval lowest. Each has a brass collar and a brass lampholder inside. The chains are supplied at 50cm, 70cm and 76cm, and the whole arrangement spreads 55cm across and hangs 114.5cm.

Three sources at three heights work down through a tall space rather than lighting a single plane, and because the glass is clear each bulb is visible and throws its own pattern. That is a stairwell, a double height hall, or a room with a high ceiling. At 8.36kg it is a heavy fitting and the ceiling has to take it. It uses three E27 bulbs up to 60W each, it is suitable for use with a dimmer switch, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The shades are recycled glass, blown by hand into moulds, so the wall thickness and the small marks in the glass differ from shade to shade. The chains, collars and ceiling plate are brass, and the cords and chains can be adjusted by a qualified electrician. The Otoro range runs to nineteen pieces, including each of these three shapes on its own. Bulbs are not included.
