Otoro 2 Light Wall Light - Clear

This is the Otoro double in clear glass: a round brass plate on the wall, two brass arms curving out and down, and a flattened round shade hanging from each on a ribbed brass collar. The glass is clear and carries small bubbles through it, and the shades are open at the bottom, so the bulb is in plain sight inside each one. It is 20cm tall, 18cm wide and projects 30cm from the wall.

Clear glass puts nothing between the bulb and the room, so what it gives is the bulb itself twice over rather than a diffused glow, and the shape of the filament matters more than it would behind coloured glass. It suits a hallway, either side of a mirror, or a living space where a pair of points of light is wanted rather than one. It takes two E14 bulbs up to 25W, it works on a dimmer, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is recycled, crushed and melted, then blown by hand into a mould, so the wall thickness and the bubbles differ from one shade to the next. The metalwork is aluminium under an antique brass finish. The Otoro range runs to nineteen pieces: round and oval shades in small and large, in clear, green, smoke and honey, plus a cluster pendant and four wall lights, of which this is one.

How many bulbs does it take?

Two, one in each shade. They are E14, up to 25W, and no bulbs are included.

Is the bulb visible?

Yes. The glass is clear and the shades are open at the bottom, so the bulb is in full view in each one.

What is the difference from the green one?

The glass only. The green shades soften the light and warm it; these leave the bulb to do the work as it is.

Can it go on a dimmer?

Yes.

How do I clean it?

Turn it off, then wipe the glass with a soft dry microfibre cloth, working in circles. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off it.
