Description
Ornato Round L is a round wall mirror one metre across, with gold coloured metal leaf applied by hand directly onto the glass. The leaf is laid so that it breaks along a torn, coastline like border rather than a drawn line, and because it is applied by hand the pattern is different on every mirror made. Ornato is Italian for highly decorated. The mirror hangs on a rotating suspension, so the gilded area can be turned to sit at the top, the side or anywhere between. The design is by Esther Everaert.
The rotation is the part worth planning around. Hung over a console the gilding usually reads best gathered to one side; over a fireplace it tends to want the weight at the top. Because it turns through a full circle on the fixing, that decision is not made once at installation and left, and it can be changed with the seasons or when the furniture moves. It suits a hallway, a living room or a bedroom, and it combines with the other sizes in the Ornato range if a group is wanted rather than a single piece. It is not rated for bathroom use, so keep it to dry rooms. Two screws with washers and plugs are supplied and there is nothing to assemble. At 8.5kg and 2.5cm deep it is light for a mirror a metre across and sits close to the wall.
The mirror is mirrored glass with hand applied gold coloured metal leaf. Clean the plain glass with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth and keep both cloth and cleaner off the gilded area, which is a surface finish and not laminated behind glass. Seven year warranty, made in Belgium.

Frequently Asked
Is the gold pattern the same on every mirror?
No. The leaf is applied by hand, so the torn edge of the gilding falls differently on each one.
What does the rotating suspension do?
It lets the mirror turn on its fixing, so the gilded area can be positioned at the top, the side or anywhere between.
Can it be used in a bathroom?
No. It is not rated for bathroom use, so keep it to dry rooms.
How should the gilding be cleaned?
Dust it dry. The leaf is a surface finish rather than a layer behind glass, so keep cleaner away from it.
What size is it and what does it weigh?
100cm across in both directions, 2.5cm deep, weighing 8.5kg.
