Description
The Orbis is a 100mm square surface-mount downlight in white powder-coated aluminium, housing a single GX53 bulb fitting. Unlike recessed downlights that require ceiling cavity depth, the Orbis mounts directly onto the ceiling surface, making it suitable for solid concrete ceilings, low-ceiling installations, and situations where recessing is impractical or impossible.
Designed for hallways, kitchens, bathrooms (IP20 dry-zone only), and office spaces needing distributed overhead light without the disruption of ceiling-cutting, the Orbis accepts any standard GX53 LED or compact fluorescent bulb up to the fitting's rated wattage (see Specification). The square housing projects 100mm from the ceiling and measures 100mm along each side, giving a clean geometric profile that sits close to the surface.
The turned aluminium body provides effective heat dissipation for the GX53 bulb, helping to maintain LED performance and lifespan. The white powder-coat finish matches standard white ceilings and reflects additional light into the room rather than absorbing it. The fitting is dimmable when paired with a compatible GX53 dimmable LED bulb and a suitable dimmer switch—bulb and dimmer compatibility should be checked before installation.

Frequently Asked
Does this fitting include a bulb?
No. The Orbis accepts any standard GX53 bulb (LED or compact fluorescent) up to the fitting's rated wattage. GX53 LED bulbs are sold separately and are available from Niori in a range of wattages and colour temperatures.
Can this be fitted to a solid concrete ceiling?
Yes. The Orbis is a surface-mount downlight, meaning it fixes directly onto the ceiling surface without requiring any cavity depth. This makes it suitable for solid concrete ceilings where recessed fittings cannot be installed.
Is it dimmable?
The fitting itself is dimmable-compatible. To achieve dimming, you must use a dimmable GX53 LED bulb and pair it with a compatible LED dimmer switch. Non-dimmable bulbs will not dim and may flicker or fail if used with a dimmer.
What is the IP rating and can it be used in bathrooms?
The Orbis carries an IP20 rating, meaning it is suitable for dry indoor locations only. In bathrooms, it can be installed outside of defined zones (more than 600mm from a shower or bath edge) but not within zones 0, 1 or 2 where moisture is present.
