Description

The Orbis is a 100mm square surface-mounted downlight built from turned aluminium with a copper electroplated finish on the outer body and a black powder-coated inner reflector. The fitting takes a single GX53 LED bulb (sold separately) and projects 100mm from the ceiling, making it suitable for rooms where recessed downlights cannot be installed due to shallow ceiling voids or structural constraints.

Designed for hallways, kitchens, living rooms and commercial retail spaces, the Orbis provides directed downlight without requiring a cut-out. The copper finish reflects warm light back into the space when the bulb is on, while the black inner reflector minimises glare and focuses the light cone downward. The square profile suits both grid-based ceiling layouts and standalone feature positions above furniture or displays.

The turned aluminium body acts as a passive heat sink, drawing heat away from the GX53 bulb socket to extend bulb life and maintain consistent light output. The copper plating develops a natural patina over time in high-humidity environments but can be maintained with a soft cloth if a polished finish is preferred. The IP20 rating limits the fitting to dry indoor areas — it is not suitable for bathrooms, wet rooms or outdoor use.

Does the bulb come with the fitting?

No. The Orbis takes a GX53 LED bulb, sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white GX53 LED between 5-9W and 2700K-3000K to match the copper tone.

Is it dimmable?

The fitting itself supports dimming, but dimmer compatibility depends on the specific GX53 LED bulb chosen. Check the bulb packaging for dimmer compatibility before pairing with a dimmer switch.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

No. The IP20 rating means the fitting is only suitable for dry indoor areas. Bathrooms, wet rooms and outdoor locations require a minimum IP44 rating.

Does the copper finish tarnish?

Copper naturally develops a patina over time, especially in humid or coastal environments. This can be slowed by wiping the surface with a dry microfibre cloth. If a polished finish is preferred, a copper-specific polish can restore the original tone, but patina is a normal characteristic of natural copper plating.
